KRALENDIJK – July 31st, 2024 – Water- en Energiebedrijf Bonaire (WEB) and Federashon di Empleadonan di Boneiru (FEDEBON) have reached a renewed Collective Labor Agreement (CLA), effective January 1, 2024 and up to and including December 31, 2027. This agreement was reached after a period of negotiations between FEDEBON and WEB. All conditions now agreed upon will be implemented retroactively. The new CLA focuses on improving the quality of life of WEB’s employees.
An important part of the new CLA is that employees are now entitled to parental leave following the birth of their child. This measure is intended to improve the work-life balance and to give fathers in particular the opportunity to be with their newborn children.
In addition, the CLA offers extra days off for parents to care for sick children. This childcare leave enables parents to fulfill their responsibilities for their family without this being at the expense of their work.
The new CLA is aimed at improving the quality of life of WEB employees.
To compensate for the increase in the cost of living in 2024, each employee will receive a one-off payment.
Additionally, it has been agreed to research the potential introduction of reduced working hours in the future. The utility sector operates 24/7, and in a growing scenario with a tight labor market like Bonaire’s, time is needed to thoroughly evaluate all factors before making such decisions.
The WEB management is satisfied with this CLA. This agreement fits within WEB’s strategy in which people are central to their well-being and prosperity, so that WEB remains an attractive and competitive employer on Bonaire.
