Kralendijk, August 2, 2024 – Water and Energy Company Bonaire (WEB) announces the start of the next phase of the LED lighting installation on Bonaire in August. These significant works, carried out by WEB on behalf of the Public Entity Bonaire (OLB), will substantially improve and transform the lighting in various parts of the island. A total of 1,000 new smart streetlights will be installed in phase II.
Following a successful pilot that began in August 2023, during which 625 LED lamps were installed along several main roads, WEB is ready to proceed with the full rollout. The positive effects of the new lighting are already noticeable to residents and drivers, who now enjoy better visibility and increased safety.
The installation of the LED lamps is proudly carried out by local contractors, including Installation Company Oleana (IBO NV) and D.S.G NV. This collaboration highlights the importance of local involvement and expertise in the execution of this project.
Work Period:
The work will take place from August through November 2024. The neighborhoods of Amboina, Bario Wanapa, and Bario Selesie will be addressed first. Additionally, the first section of Kaya Internashonal, from Rotonde Bonaco to Kaya Gilberto F Croes, will be equipped with new street lighting.
What Does This Mean for Residents and Road Users?
The work will be carried out from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM. Efforts will be made to minimize inconvenience. Residents are kindly requested to keep the area around the lampposts clear so our teams can work efficiently and safely. Additionally, road users are asked to drive more slowly in areas where work is taking place.
WEB and OLB look forward to taking a step forward with the community of Bonaire towards a more sustainable and safer island. The LED lighting not only offers energy savings but also contributes to a brighter, safer, and more sustainable Bonaire for everyone.
