Kralendijk, September 3, 2024 – Last night, there was a power outage in the southern area of Bonaire, which lasted from approximately 9:00 PM to 2:00 AM. The cause of the outage was an unexpected high increase in energy demand, triggered by extreme temperatures in combination with planned work to expand the transmission capacity of a main line. It is important to note that at the same time, preparations were being made for repair work on a mayor cable that has been recently damaged by a contractor.
This spike in energy demand turned out to be significantly higher than WEB could have anticipated under the abnormal weather conditions of last night, putting the network under severe strain. This led to an overload in certain parts of the network.
WEB technicians are currently working intensively on the necessary adjustments to reconfigure the network to meet the demand.
With the expected further rise in temperatures in the coming days, we advise you to be mindful of your energy consumption, especially during evening hours.
According to the plan, the cable damaged by the contractor will be repaired and put back into service by Wednesday, September 4th. Adjustments have been made in the transmission network to prevent a similar outage from occurring again. Until the cable is repaired, the situation will remain delicate but under control in the southern area of Bonaire.
WEB thanks the public for their understanding and cooperation.
