Kralendijk, September 10th , 2024 – Last night around 10:00 P.M, a large part of Bonaire was affected by a power outage, commonly referred to as a “Brown Out.” Rincon, Sabadeco, and parts of Hato were unaffected by the disruption.
The automatic protection system disconnected one of the main cables that connects the production facility in Karpata with WEB. As a result, the second cable experienced an overload.
The team from Water -en Energiebedrijf Bonaire (WEB) immediately began investigating and restoring the power supply starting at 10:00 P.M. Priority was given to reconnecting the Mariadal hospital, where power was restored around 1:00 A.M. Other areas followed afterward. By 3:00 A.M, 90% of the power supply on Bonaire had been restored. WEB will need to conduct further investigations before the remaining 10% can be reconnected and has chosen to implement a switching schedule to restore power to the remaining areas of Lagun, Republiek, Playa Pabou, and Antriol Pariba towards Lagun.
