Progress of LED Street Lighting on Bonaire: Safety and Sustainability as Priorities

Kralendijk, September, 27 th 2024   – To enhance safety and sustainability on Bonaire, Water -en Energiebedrijf Bonaire (WEB), as project supervisor on behalf of the Public Entity Bonaire (OLB), is currently installing new LED street lighting throughout the island. This project, which involves the complete replacement of 1,000 streetlights, contributes to a safer and better illuminated environment for all residents.

Since the project began in 2023, WEB is now in the second phase of implementation. WEB has already completed 30% of this phase, which translates to the installation of 300 new LED streetlights in various neighborhoods. These new lights not only provide better visibility and safety but also contribute to a more sustainable energy use.

Neighborhoods already equipped with new LED street lighting include:

  • Santa Rosa
  • Wanapa: Kaya Wanapa, Kaya Bamba, Kaya Wiri, Kaya Karkó
  • Selesie
  • Kibrahacha
  • Amboina
  • Nikiboko: Kaya Macario Sint Jago, Kaya Avelino J. Cecilia, Kaya Pos di amor, Kaya Dominico J.R. Herrera, Kaya Andres A. Emerenciana

Den Chefi: Kaya Socrates, Kaya Bachaquera, Kaya Andino, Kaya Triton, Kaya Castor

In the months of September and October, WEB will continue the installation of new LED street lighting on Bonaire. During this period, the following neighborhoods will be provided with sustainable and energy-efficient lighting:

Tera Cora: Kaya Amazon, Kaya Miranda, Kaya Deseado, Kaya Parana, Kaya Demerara, Kaya Embira, Kaya Theresa F. Ilario, Kaya Erebato, Kaya Essequibo, Kaya Zambezi, Kaya Hulanda.

Belnem: Punt Vierkant, Kaya Pos Frances, Kaya Pos Karaña, Kaya Pos Mangel, Kaya Akuario, Kaya Skòrpio, Kaya Gemini, Kaya Sagitario, Kaya Mercurius, Kaya Neptunes, Kaya Uranus, Kaya Jupiter, Kaya Mars, Kaya Venus, Kaya Solo, Kaya Strea, Kaya Luna.

We ask all automobilist and residents to be mindful of the work being carried out and to cooperate. During this period, WEB will also continue to maintain the existing street lighting. If you notice a defective streetlight, please contact our emergency service at 9215 or send an email to info@webbonaire.com, so we can address the issue as soon as possible.

WEB, in collaboration with the OLB, is working hard for the future and investing in Bonaire’s infrastructure. This project is crucial for improving the living conditions of our community.
