WEB conduct preventative inspection work on the electricity network

Kralendijk, February 6th, 2025 – Water -en Energiebedrijf Bonaire (WEB) will carry out various inspection and repair works on underground electricity cables at multiple locations from Friday, February 7th to Sunday, February 9th. These activities are aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of the electricity network.

Following recent disruptions, WEB conducted a preliminary forensic investigation. The findings revealed that further examination of the cables installed in the late 2000s is necessary. To inspect critical components of these cables, WEB is compelled to temporarily and carefully disconnect some connections.

In addition, WEB will install an advanced system called the ‘Smart Cable Guard,’ which will continuously monitor the condition of the cables. Temperature sensors will also be installed to provide valuable data on the condition of the connections. These measures will contribute to a more stable and energy-efficient network.

To carry out the aforementioned tasks, WEB has scheduled work to disconnect one circuit during the night from Friday, February 7th, to Saturday, February 8th, and another circuit during the night from Saturday, February 8th, to Sunday, February 9th. As a result, only one of the two connections will be operational at a time.

Although WEB expects these activities will not impact customers’ power supply, there is a small chance of an interruption. To minimize the impact on customers, the work will be carried out between 11:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m.

The work will take place exclusively on underground cables near Kaya Korona. WEB kindly asks road users to be mindful of potential activities along
